Why Hemp Fabric?
Hemp is one of the strongest and longest natural fibers, four to five times stronger than cotton. Woven into textiles, it produces an incredibly durable fabric that resists breaking down, tearing or developing odor, while actually softening with wear rather than wearing out. We ethically source our hemp from Nepal’s hilly regions, where the plant grows naturally and the fabric’s production stays environmentally sustainable, requiring less land and absorbing more carbon than it produces.
Handmade by Women Artisans
After harvesting, women in rural Nepali villages shred the hemp leaves and soak the stems in water for up to 20 days until they soften. Artisans then separate the bark from the plant, smoke it over a fire and boil it in ash water. Through a traditional process called “retting,” workers separate hemp fibers from the bark, then spin them into continuous thread and weave them into fabric. Women perform nearly every step, from fiber processing to spinning and weaving, and every purchase directly supports their livelihoods.
