How These Felt Balls Are Made
Artisans in Nepal hand-roll each wool felt ball from natural fiber using azo-free dyes, then shape and firm it entirely by hand rather than by machine. This slower process gives every ball a consistently round form while still allowing small natural variations between pieces. Because they’re 100% wool, the balls hold their shape well and can be trimmed, threaded or glued without unraveling.
The grounded, warm palette draws on natural dye tones rather than bright synthetic shades, giving finished projects a more organic, less “craft-store” look. It works especially well alongside wood, rattan and linen accents in boho or woodland-themed interiors.
Working With Felt Balls
Most makers attach felt balls with a strong needle and thread, a hot glue gun, or a thin wire, depending on the finished project. Threading works well for garlands and mobiles, while glue holds better for flat surfaces like wreaths or wall art. Because each ball is 100% wool, they can be gently spot-cleaned if needed, though wool naturally resists odor and light dust better than synthetic alternatives.
